VEVOR 341L Ice Bath Review: A Lot of Tub for £36

VEVOR sells everything from sausage stuffers to hydraulic presses, all of it built to hit a price, and the ice bath follows the formula. Thirty five quid buys 341 litres, a lid, a carry bag, two drains and a set of repair patches. Nothing here is lovely, but almost nothing is missing either.

341 litres is the headline and the catch

Capacity is the one number that separates budget tubs, and 341 litres puts this above most inflatable barrels and close to a rigid tub like The Cold Pod 320L. You sit upright with water at the collarbone, and there is room to shift your arms without hitting the wall, which sounds trivial until you are two minutes into a plunge and trying not to panic.

The bill arrives with the ice. Every litre needs chilling, so 341 litres from a 15C July tap down to 5C takes something in the region of 40kg, which is ten bags and roughly £6 a session. The WAVYEASE at 80 x 66cm holds around 100 litres less and costs proportionally less to chill, which over a hot summer is a bigger difference than the £4 between the two tubs.

The drains change everything

Cheap tubs usually have no drain. You bail them, or you tip 300kg of water across your patio, and after three weeks of that you stop using the thing. VEVOR fitted two: one in the base and a side pipe. Run a hose from either into a border or a gully and the tub empties itself while you dry off.

That single feature is why this beats several tubs costing more. Whatever else you compromise on at this price, do not compromise on getting the water out.

Siting and weight

Three hundred and fifty kilos in a 0.5 square metre footprint is a heavy point load for something that costs less than a pair of trainers. Concrete, patio slabs and garage floors are fine. Decking depends entirely on the joists. Balconies almost certainly are not, and grass turns to mud inside a fortnight while the lawn underneath dies.

Think about where the water goes, too. Both drains are useless if the tub sits in the middle of a flat patio with nowhere lower to run to. Put it on a slight fall, or buy a longer hose.

What cold water does, and what it does not

The reliable payoff is how you feel afterwards, an effect that holds up in the literature alongside real cardiovascular risk during the first thirty seconds of immersion when the cold shock response spikes heart rate and breathing (health effects of voluntary cold water exposure). If you lift, timing matters more than temperature. Cold immersion immediately after resistance training suppresses the adaptive signalling that follows a hard session, and controlled studies have found smaller long term strength and hypertrophy gains than active recovery (cold water immersion and strength adaptation). Keep several hours between the gym and the tub, or reserve the tub for rest days.
