Vivo Life Perform Raw Vegan Protein Powder

4.6

Vivo Life Perform is one of the best vegan protein powders we've reviewed. It's a flagship plant-based protein from British company Vivo Life that packs 25g of raw protein and 6g of BCAAs into every scoop. We bought a 1kg bag of the Raw Cacao flavour from Amazon UK and used it daily for a couple of weeks. Here's our honest review.

Vivo Life offers two vegan protein powders (this one and Vivo Life Ritual) alongside a range of vegan, sustainable products, and they've built a strong reputation in the plant-based health space. Perform is the one aimed at performance and recovery, and it shows.

Why Vivo Life Perform stands out

A scoop of Vivo Life Perform contains 25 grams of plant-based protein plus 6 grams of BCAAs, ideal if you want everything you need from a single product. It proudly contains no artificial colours, sweeteners, flavourings, preservatives, fillers or binders.

Vivo Life also pay attention to recovery. Each scoop includes turmeric, which is rich in antioxidants, and bio-fermented proteins to ease digestion of the shake.

Heavy metals have made the news recently for their links to protein powders. Vivo Life test their products both at source and through batch testing for heavy metals. From our research, they're one of the few companies actively making such checks with their vegan protein powders.

Ingredients and nutrition

We opted for the Raw Cacao flavour. Each flavour has a slightly different nutritional profile, so check the Vivo Life website for the full ingredient list of your chosen flavour.

Raw Cacao is well balanced nutritionally. It combines two plant-based proteins with a plant-based BCAA blend (L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine), plus raw cacao powder, a pinch of pink Himalayan salt, turmeric extract and stevia extract as a natural sweetener.

Per 38g scoop you get 142kcal, 2.1g of fat, 3.5g of carbohydrates and 25g of protein, along with 2.7g of fibre and a handful of minerals to aid recovery (specifically zinc, selenium and iron). Whether you use it as a post-workout recovery shake or simply to top up your daily protein, you're getting what your body needs to recover and build muscle.

Taste and mixability

Great-tasting vegan protein powders can be hit and miss. We're happy to report that Vivo Life Perform is a big hit.

We first mixed the Raw Cacao powder with water to set a baseline for taste and mixability. It mixes very well, with no lumpy consistency and no residue left after drinking. Even with water it tasted chocolatey and was nice and filling.

With plant-based milk (we went with oat) it only got better. Mixability was just as good and the flavour turned creamier while keeping that cacao taste. It isn't sickly sweet either. There's just the right balance of sweetness and flavour. Big thumbs up from us.

Our tip

For the creamiest result, mix Perform with cold oat or soy milk rather than water. The flavour comes through richer and it makes for a more satisfying post-workout shake.

How effective is it?

If you want a vegan protein powder that delivers, has genuine vegan credentials and gives you everything you need on your fitness journey, this is it. A great-tasting shake, high protein content and quality ingredients are central to why Vivo Life Perform performs so well.

With over 450 reviews and a rating above 4 at the time of writing, it's no surprise Perform is one of the most popular vegan protein powders on the market. Its balance of quality ingredients, high protein content and excellent taste makes it an easy recommendation.
