Looking for the best vegan protein bars UK? We bought and tested 9 different plant-based protein bars to find the ones that win on taste, protein content and value for money, then narrowed them down to our top 3 recommendations. Frankly, the results surprised us.
How we ranked them
We wanted to give every bar a fair, unbiased assessment, so we rated each one across the key areas that actually matter:
- Value for money
- Taste
- Variety of flavours
- Protein content
- Other ingredients
- Product and company sustainability
Crucially, we didn't over-weight any single factor like price or protein. A more expensive bar often scored highly elsewhere, while a lower-protein bar sometimes delivered outstanding value. After weighing everything up, here are the top 3 vegan protein bars money can buy.
1. Misfits Vegan Protein Bar: Best Overall

The Misfits Vegan Protein Bar tops our list for a whole host of reasons. It's delicious and genuinely nutritious, with 15g of protein per bar, 8g of fibre and well-balanced macros so you won't feel guilty about reaching for one.
We opted for a Misfits Variety Box so we could try every flavour, and we weren't disappointed. Switching between flavours kept our quick snacks interesting. Our favourites were the Chocolate Caramel and the Chocolate Peanut; the Chocolate Caramel is about as close as you'll get to a vegan Mars bar.
On price, Misfits are very competitive at around £17-£20 for a box of 12, putting them firmly alongside other big brands without breaking the bank. They're also a 100% vegan company with plastic-free packaging and a strong focus on sustainability, another reason they earn the number one spot.
Our top pick
If you only buy one box, make it Misfits. They strike the best balance of protein, taste, price and sustainability of any bar we tested.
2. PhD Smart Bar Plant: Highest Protein

Next up is the PhD Smart Bar Plant, which wowed us with its taste, big range of flavours and seriously high protein content. PhD Nutrition has been designing high-quality protein supplements since 2006, and this is one of their best creations.
Each bar packs around 20-23g of protein depending on the flavour (more than most leading brands), alongside roughly 7g of carbs and just 2-3g of sugar. It's soft in the middle with great flavour. We tested the Choc Peanut and the Salted Caramel; the Salted Caramel may be a touch too sweet for some palates, but we enjoyed both and are keen to try more.
Overall, PhD have managed something many brands struggle with: a high-quality bar that's still good value for money.

This one may surprise you, because a quick glance at the macros shows just 9g of protein per bar. But don't be fooled. What TREK's High Protein Flapjacks lack in raw protein they more than make up for in taste, value and quality of ingredients.
TREK offer 7 different varieties, and we love the Cocoa Oat and the Salted Caramel. These are flapjacks rather than typical protein bars, so they're a great pick if you fancy something a little different.
The price is the clincher: roughly £13-£17 for a box of 16 bars is exceptional value. Most high-protein bars sit around £20 for 12, so TREK are perfect if you want to keep costs down while still snacking healthily.
