In total, we bought and tried 9 different types of vegan protein bar. From those 9, we narrowed down our results to our top 3 recommendations – the best of the best when it comes to vegan protein bars!

And frankly, the results were quite surprising.

Let’s get stuck in!

Best Vegan Protein bars UK

When we set out to do this, we wanted to make sure that we gave each of the protein bars a fair and unbiased consideration.

To do so, we looked at a number of key areas that we would be rating the bars on, namely:

  • Value for Money
  • Taste
  • Variety of Flavours
  • Protein Content
  • Other Ingredients
  • Product/Company Sustainability

One thing we didn’t want to do, was give too much weighting to products that were, for instance, less expensive or had higher protein. The reason behind this is because sometimes we found that a more expensive product scored highly in the other categories, or conversely, a bar with lower protein had great value for money.

After taking all of that into consideration, here are the top 3 protein bars that money can buy.

First up is the Misfits Vegan Protein Bar, and it’s first on our list for a plethora of reasons.

The Misfits Vegan Protein Bar is an amazing product that is not only delicious but also nutritious! The bar has a great variety of flavours to suit any taste, it offers high protein content at 15g per bar, and the macros are well-balanced so you won’t feel guilty about eating one. It’s refreshing to know that this company delivers quality products and is focussed on being 100% vegan throughout their supply chain and company.

We opted for a Misfits Variety Box so we could try out all of the flavours that Misfits had to offer, and we were not disappointed. The flavours were all delicious, and we loved being able to switch up which flavour we wanted for a quick snack. We also loved that Misfits offer so many vegan alternatives as well- it’s great knowing there are more options out there!

Personally, our top flavours were the Chocolate Caramel and the Chocolate Peanut. The only way to describe the Chocolate Caramel is it’s probably as close as you’ll get to eating a vegan Mars bar!

In terms of price, Misfits have positioned themselves as a very competitive option when looking for a vegan protein bar. Sitting at around £17-£20 for a box of 12, that puts them firmly in the price bracket of must other big brands, so you’re not breaking the bank with these bad-boys.

Finally, it’s important to note that Misfits are a 100% vegan company, with a strong stance on being as friendly to the planet and as sustainable as possible. All of their packaging is plastic-free too, another bonus!

It comes as no surprise that Misfits Vegan Protein Bars are the number one choice for best vegan protein bars in the UK.

Next up is the PhD Smart Bar Plant. They wowed us with their incredible taste, huge range of flavours and super-high protein content.

PhD Nutrition is a company that has been designing and manufacturing high-quality protein supplements since2006. The PhD Smart Bar Plant is one of their greatest creations, set to revolutionise the vegan protein bar industry.

The bars contain around 20g of protein per serving (depending on which flavour you choose), which is more than most of the other leading brands on the market. In addition to this, it also contains ~7g of carbs and just ~2g of sugar! All in all, the PhD Smart Bar Plant offers great value for money as well as some impressive nutritional values!

In terms of taste, PhD Smart Bar Plant has done a great job. It’s soft in the middle, with a great flavour from whichever one you choose. Personally we tested the Choc Peanut and the Salted Caramel – whilst the Salted Caramel could potentially be a little bit too sickly sweet for some palates, we enjoyed both flavours and are keen to try others.

Overall, PhD Nutrition have done an excellent job of designing this product to be high-quality while still being good value for money – something that many companies struggle to do.

TREK High Protein Flapjack

  • Flapjack as opposed to the more typical protein bars
  • Chewy, moist and great tasting!

This one may come as a bit of a surprise to some people, as a quick glance at the macros shows that TREK High Protein Flapjacks contain just 9g of protein.

But don’t be fooled!

Whilst 9g of protein is lower than our other recommendations, TREK’s High Protein Flapjacks to a great job when it comes to taste, value for money and quality of ingredients.

TREK have 7 different varieties to choose from when it comes to flavour. We’ve tried out a few of those, and we absolutely love the Cocoa Oat and the Salted Caramel. One important thing to note is that these are flapjacks, so if you’re looking for something a little bit different from your usual protein bars, then we would definitely recommend giving these a try.

Another reason why TREK High Protein Flapjack is one of our recommended best vegan protein bars in the UK is the price. Sitting between £13-£17 for a box of 16 – yes, SIXTEEN, bars, is incredible value for money. Most other high protein bars usually sit around the £20 for 12 bars mark, so TREK are perfect if you’re looking to reduce your spending whilst still having a healthy snack option.
