Taste and texture

The flavour is exactly what you'd hope for, flapjack-y and chocolatey, and very nice indeed. The cocoa and oat combination was always going to be a winner, and the Trek Cocoa Oat Protein Flapjack doesn't disappoint. It's possibly a touch sweet for certain tastes, but it's not an overpowering sweetness.

The bars are super chewy without being crumbly, with a moist texture and a balanced flavour. You'd swear they'd slipped some gluten in there to get them this chewy, but no, they're completely gluten-free, making them perfect for gluten-sensitive vegans and coeliacs.

They're moreish

At 227kcal each, these are very easy to keep reaching for. We'd recommend taking one or two with you and leaving the rest in the cupboard, so the box isn't staring at you all day.

We found ourselves using them as a breakfast replacement on rushed mornings. They kept us going right through to lunch, so they're great for keeping hunger pangs at bay.

Cost and value

RRP for the Trek Cocoa Oat Protein Flapjack sits at around £16.80 for a pack of 16, which works out at roughly £1 per flapjack, not bad at all. Plenty of places charge between £1 and £2 for similar products, so Trek's flapjacks are good value for money.

If you spot them on Amazon UK for less than that, it's worth jumping on the chance. At the time of our review they were heavily reduced to just £8.13 for a box of 16, which is great value.
