To find out whether it's worth the money, we bought the Jet 100 ourselves, tested it thoroughly over two months, and wrote up this in-depth review so you can make an informed decision.

First impressions and setup

Reebok is well known for its fitness equipment, and the Jet 100 sits at the lower end of the budget spectrum while still looking and feeling like a commercial machine. On delivery, the first thing you'll notice is the size of the box and the weight. At 76 kg in total, it's worth having a second pair of hands to lift it into the room where you'll use it. The assembly instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the treadmill took us around 30 minutes to set up.

Plan where it lives

Because the Jet 100 is heavy and steel-framed, decide on its location before you build it. Once it's in place you can fold and unfold it easily, but moving it between rooms is a two-person job.

Reebok Jet 100 features

Running belt

One of the first things that struck us was the width of the running belt, one of the most important features of any treadmill, and the Jet 100 doesn't disappoint. We measured it at roughly 10 cm narrower than a commercial gym machine (about 5 cm either side), but we didn't notice the difference when running.

The belt feels secure and comfortable underfoot. Reebok's Air Motion Technology reacts to each foot strike, transferring air to where it's needed to provide a smooth, cushioned running platform.

LED display

The LED display is fairly basic but gives you everything you need for running at home. It's a typical red LED readout covering the key stats: speed, distance, time, calories burned, incline, running program and even your pulse via the integrated heart-rate sensors.

A great bonus is the ability to connect your phone over Bluetooth and track your runs in your favourite app. Use the Reebok app and it can simulate running on a road of your choice, automatically adjusting the incline to match. Pretty neat.

The Jet 100 also has built-in speakers so you can listen to music as you run. They're decent quality, but we can't see them replacing headphones. Their best use was hearing the postman, which, to be fair, is a genuine perk. There's also a wired port on the console if you'd rather skip Bluetooth.

Speed and incline

The Jet 100 has a maximum speed of 16 km/h (around 10 mph), more than enough for the vast majority of home users, driven by a 2 HP motor that's smooth and quiet in use. You can adjust speed from the console or the handlebar controls, and safety platforms either side of the running deck let you hop on and off quickly mid-workout.

The incline really impressed us. At this price it's tricky to find a home treadmill with a decent range of adjustable incline, but the Jet 100 changes that with 12 levels of electronic incline, each roughly corresponding to a 1 cm rise at the top of the deck. As with speed, you can change incline on the fly via the console or handlebars.

Programs

The Jet 100 packs in 24 preset programs to get the best out of every run. Some are simple jogs to warm up, while others replicate mountainous runs up steep terrain. Whatever your goals, at least one program should help you get there.

Heart-rate sensors

Integrated heart-rate sensors in the handlebars give you feedback on your pulse as you run. Useful for anyone keen to optimise every part of their session, though probably less essential for the typical home runner.

Folding running deck

At the end of a workout you can lift the deck into the upright position quickly and easily to store the treadmill away. When you're ready for your next run, Reebok's Soft Drop hydraulic system slowly lowers it back down for you.

Build quality

When we assess build quality we consider every aspect of a treadmill (the frame, the hardware, the motor and all the mechanical features) as well as the warranty, so you're not left out of pocket if something goes wrong.

The frame. The Jet 100's frame is steel with a corrosion-resistant coating, which is a big plus: cheaper plastic-heavy treadmills tend to bend and rattle in use. Being steel, it's heavy and a two-person move between rooms, but once positioned it folds and unfolds effortlessly. The machine feels genuinely sturdy and well-built. It doesn't shift around in use and stays very quiet at lower speeds. The deck is generously sized at 130 x 43 cm and supports users up to 110 kg (around 17.5 stone).

The motor. The 2 HP motor is more than enough for most home users, and the noise levels impressed us. It's near-silent at lower speeds; it picks up a little at higher speeds, but it's still quiet compared with rivals at this price.

The warranty. Any machine from a reputable brand should come with solid cover, and the Jet 100 delivers: a 10-year motor warranty, a lifetime frame warranty and 2 years of parts and labour as standard. Impressive. Reebok also has a UK helpline and online chat if you need help or advice.

After 2 months of use

Our team ran on the Jet 100 (almost) daily for eight weeks, and overall we've been very pleased with how it's performed.

The deck cushioning stood out as one of the best aspects of the machine, outperforming other treadmills in this price bracket. It's very comfortable to run on, with the air-motion cushioning giving a balanced level of resistance underfoot. If you'll be running for longer durations, the Jet 100 is an excellent choice.

We'd worried that folding and unfolding might become a chore, but it absolutely didn't. Folding the deck into the upright position is easy and takes little force, and unfolding is easier still thanks to the Soft Drop hydraulics.

The auto-stop safety is a nice touch we ended up using once: a cord clips to your clothing at one end and attaches to the console with a magnet at the other. Trip, and the cord pulls free and the machine stops immediately.

The Jet 100 tells you when it needs lubricating.
